Nepal Trip Pictures: 1999

I decided to return to Nepal (click here for the journal) on the 11 month anniversary of my first trip, documented here and pictorially represented here.

I took these pictures with my Pentax K1000 35mm SLR (useful in harsh environments because the shutter still works if the battery fails), using both a Pentax 28-200 zoom and a Sigma 21-35mm zoom. I scanned the negatives using my Polaroid SprintScan35, pulled them into Adobe Photoshop 5.0, let Extensis Intellihance 3.0 take a crack at sharpening and color/exposure adjusting them, then saved them as quality level 6 JPEGs (640x480 and 80x60).

If you see any strange spots or squiggly lines on your screen, don't think you're looking at UFOs or need to clean your monitor. They're just dust/water spots/scratches/etc. on the negatives; it took me long enough to scan all this stuff, far from meticulously cleaning the negatives beforehand! The benefits of digital photography (see last year's pictures) are becoming more obvious all the time, and in retrospect I'm not sure if getting my film developed in Kathmandu was such a smart idea after all.....:-(

Click on a thumbnail below for a larger version of the JPEG. Within each date, I've arranged the images in chronological order (from upper left to lower right). If you have any questions about where I took a specific picture or about trekking in Nepal in general, email me!
